to
enhance the capabilities of Federal agencies
in
their efforts to provide homeland defense and security.
Chantilly,
VA - June 17th, 2004
- SpectraRep® (www.spectrarep.com),
the leader in Digital TV (DTV) IP networking solutions, announced today
that its DTV datacast service - DTV-IPcast(tm)
- is being tested and evaluated at the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff's
annual Joint Warrior Interoperability Demonstration (JWID), scheduled
for 14-25 June 2004.
SpectraRep's objective is to show how its DTV datacasting service can be a solution that facilitates the exchange of information across Homeland Security and Homeland Defense agencies. During this military exercise, SpectraRep® technology will demonstrate an operational deployment of a high-quality wireless video and broadband data transmission network that is interoperable with existing computing systems.
SpectraRep® will demonstrate how DTV-IPcast(tm) technology can help Homeland Security and Homeland Defense agencies receive high-quality training and up-to-the minute information during rapidly evolving crisis scenarios. "SpectraRep's DTV datacasting technology is a state-of-the-art information-delivery system that can enhance military readiness and rapid response to homeland security needs by providing a robust delivery platform for the transmission of alerts, training and other critical information," stated Edward Czarnecki, SpectraRep's Managing Director. "It is designed to be readily familiar and usable by personnel, with quick and easy set-up."
SpectraRep's DTV-IPcast(tm) datacasting service uses a portion of digital television signals to beam information such as video and audio files to computers or mobile data terminals. The DTV-IPcast(tm) solution promises significant benefits in the areas of training, alerting, inter-agency collaboration, and supporting other critical mission areas.
DTV datacasting uses a portion of high-definition television broadcasting bandwidth to move complex files of digital materials to computing devices. Because datacasting uses only excess parts of the spectrum, it does not interfere with the television station's normal HDTV broadcasts. Information can be received using a traditional television antenna that is connected to a receiver, which plugs into a computer or mobile data device. Through this over-the-air signal, armed forces, first responder and emergency personnel can receive DVD-quality video, data transfer and other information at the desktop or in the field.
The participation of SpectraRep® at JWID 2004 was made possible through the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) and the Air Force's Global Broadcast Service Joint Program Office (GBS JPO). SpectraRep's DTV datacasting service will be used during the JWID exercise to extend broadband GBS satellite services to last-mile wireless end-users in order to enhance interagency information sharing in support of homeland security
