Press Release
Goshen College and Francis Marion University Deploy SpectraRep’s
ActiveCrawl RSS for Campus-Wide Emergency Alerting Through the Desktop
Deployed Through e2Campus, Solution Part of
Multi-Modal Approach to Campus Alerting
CHANTILLY, VA, February 23, 2010 – SpectraRep®, LLC announced today that two colleges have recently selected ActiveCrawl RSS® as its campus-wide desktop solution for emergency notifications. Goshen College in Indiana and Francis Marion University in Florence, SC are deploying ActiveCrawl RSS through e2Campus, the leading unified emergency notification system for education. With the text-based system, campus officials can send emergency alerts immediately to the computer desktops of all students, faculty and staff via text-based crawls that scroll on their computer screens.
Both schools are small to mid-size but have large campuses spread among several buildings on 100 or more acres. The need to reach students, faculty, and staff en-masse during weather or other emergencies necessitated an efficient method that would provide instructions and critical details to everyone at once.
“Security and safety are very important to the administration of Francis Marion,” said John Dixon, Chief Information Officer at the university. “We believe desktop alerting provides a powerful mechanism to inform people in a moment of crisis, particularly since the campus population uses and tends to be near their computers and laptops for extended periods of time.”
ActiveCrawl RSS is part of SpectraRep’s ActiveAccess™ suite of solutions for emergency alerting to the computer desktop. As a Certified Endpoint Provider of e2Campus, ActiveCrawl RSS is easily accessed through the e2Campus web interface to initiate and send alerts to the desktop. Text crawls are delivered within seconds of being issued. On the desktop, ActiveCrawl RSS sits in the system tray. When an event does occur, alerts scroll directly on the computer screen. Alerts appear in front of all open programs and applications so they are not missed.
“Through its integration with e2Campus, ActiveCrawl RSS provides us with an automatic way to send out desktop alerts simultaneously with other platform alerts,” said Bill Born, Vice President of Student Life at Goshen College. “It’s a major part of our multi-modal approach to campus alerting and security. With it we feel we are fully prepared should an event arise that requires we notify people at a moment’s notice.”
